Window Placement
Before you invest in a new set of windows or design a home from the bottom up, it’s important to spend some time evaluating the power and importance of window placement within the home. The windows are a homes’ only access to the outside elements, and misplacing windows or poor window design can actually result in a lot of energy efficiency problems and ambience problems within the home.
Poor window placement and design can cause serious heating and cooling issues within a home. If windows are placed indirect sunlight or windows are placed unevenly throughout the home, excessive amounts of sunlight energy can be directed into specific rooms of the house. This causes rooms within the home to rise unequally in temperature, which can be taxing to a home’s heating and cooling system.
Energy efficiency, though, isn’t the only reason for adequate and well thought out window placement. Too few windows in a room can make a space feel dreary and lifeless. Dark or dim rooms are less inviting, and a general lack of sunlight may actually reduce the amount of use you get out a room in the house. On the other hand, too much sunlight can make rooms uncomfortable and can cause annoying glares on reflective surfaces like television screens.
